Previous Month Next Month

Competitive

  • BEA WebLogic 8.1 ships, is "30% faster" and significantly extends JMS capabilities
  • NEON launches IMS adapter to add to its mainframe SQL connectivity
  • PolarLake's new technology roadmap envisages a range of XML, message and database integration products
  • Sonic opens 5 European offices, re-launches SonicXQ as "Sonic ESB", and goes upmarket with a strong "business integration" message and product line (built on XQ and its Excelon acquisition); Sonic also demonstrates OSS/J scalability for the telco market.
  • webMethods starts to roll out its JBoss-based integration server

Industry

  • Gartner predicts a 2004 recovery; but Oracle's Larry Ellison predicts a bloodbath in Silicon Valley
  • A flood of results shows mixed fortunes:
    • UP: Ascential, ILOG, Informatica (just about), Persistence
    • FLAT: webMethods
    • DOWN: Iona (catastrophically), Mercator (loss narrows but license revenue down 27%), SeeBeyond, Reuters
  • Forrester says Linux has reached a tipping point, and should sweep the board this year
  • Confusion and politics still reign in BPM world as BPEL4WS is submitted to OASIS rather than to the W3C Choreography group
